Whilst you will find job diversity in the fashion field you will find that nearly all of those jobs are concentrated in the regional fashion centers which in the U.S. is New York and California. People seeking to establish long term careers in the fashion field will need to be prepared to move to one of those centers. Whilst there are a number of colleges in the U.S. that will offer a Bachelors of Fashion Design, it is harder to find schools that offer a Masters degree in Fashion Design. Fashion design masters programs tend to focus more closely on the theoretical study of design philosophy, as well as the more technical aspects of sewing and crafting.
