Should I strip painted kitchen cabinets?

Published by admin at 4:40 pm under Home :: Home Improvement

I am about to redo my kitchen and was wondering if it is possible to refinish painted kitchen cabinets. The doors still work well and are well made but there is at least a couple coats of paint on them. Any ideas on the best place to get started?

If you are just trying to change colors and the current coat still looks good, then lightly sanding and painting the new coat will be good enough. If there are several layers of paint on there now you may want to strip them before adding a new coat of paint.

I just painted the kitchen cabinets in a lake house that my wife and I bought. They were kind of a whitewash color, ash cabinet that were in good shape but she didn’t like the color. I rented a airless paint sprayer and had it done in a day. I did not strip them, only cleaned them and then sanded them lightly. Not too bad of a diy project.
