Soil Ph
The ph balance of your worm bin is one of the most important aspects of your worm farms. There are ph meters and a ph scale. But what exactly are you measuring?
The ph of the soil is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of that soil or bedding. A measurement of 7 means that the soil is completely neutral, everything is in balance. It is based on a scale of 0 to 14.
The readings from 7 to 0 are the acidic end of the scale. The closer to 0 the measurements are, the more acidic the soil. The other side of the scale, from 7 to 14 is the alkaline side. The closer to 14, the more alkaline minerals are present in the soil.
The use of lime can help balance an acidic soil, while the addition of sulfur can help an alkaline soil. Bringing your soil back into balance will take some time, but is necessary for healthy worm bins.
