Are Natural Gas Home Generators Portable?

Published by admin at 4:03 pm under Home

Posted by Roxanna,

I’m thinking of getting a portable generator to carry us through if we have any power outages that last more than a couple of hours over the winter, and I’m not sure what type to get. We have a natural gas supply coming in to the house already, so the natural gas home generators seem promising, but I’m not clear on whether or not they come in portable versions. I’m not looking for something that can be taken on trips and things like that, but I also don’t want to have to install a permanent generator somewhere in my yard. I’d rather have a model I can hook up when I need it, but put away the rest of the time. Is this even possible with a natural gas powered generator? I’d love to get some feedback from someone who either owns one or knows something about these models.

Nope, they need to be hooked up to a natural gas line. It’s not as simple as refilling a tank like you do with gasoline or propane, so I’d stick with one of those (or diesel) if you need it to be portable.

Are you sure about that? I always thought you could get natural gas tanks that you could hook stuff up to in RVs or boats. Why couldn’t you hook up a generator this way? Seems straightforward to me.
